ANY KID, ANY SCHOOL:
In true Christian spirit, every child is welcomed and encouraged to participate. No race-day registration tears, and we’ll NEVER turn away a child over forms/fees.
CYONY Club, what is it?:
The CYO Club is NOT a team, rather an opportunity for young runners to learn the sport. No experience required, and we have runs for all levels. If you don’t have a “Parish Team” we’ll equip you with a nice CYO singlet/jersey.
While we’ve grown considerably over the last 8 years, our focus remains the same. As such, there are still NO TRYOUTS. Yes, some are experienced youth runners. There is no screaming, anger or unreasonable demands (but Coach, that 2 mile hill, seriously). We believe in the kid from day 1. We promote a running environment built on enthusiasm, self-belief, hard work, goal setting, determination, good sportsmanship, community awareness, and friendship. There’s always a focus on mechanics, efficiency, nutrition, endurance/strength, speed and trail stewardship. We develop runners.
“My kid LOATHES sports”…PERFECT! Have her/him give us try, no obligation. We’re NOT JOKING, we want the kids that hide from gym, have no understanding/concept of team sports, and/or generally avoid strenuous activity.
CYONY Club Practices:
Practices will be held on Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 6:30-7:30 dusk. We’ll have a number of adult volunteer running coaches at every practice. The first 10 minutes of practice will consist of stretching/drills/warmup.
CYONY CLUB Experience needed?:
For the long runs, yes. However we include a “guided one-mile” run at every practice for young/new/endurance building runners.
Practice Locations may include:
- Webster Avenue Trail (New Rochelle between Webster/Twin lakes)
- Twin Lakes (Eastchester)
- Saint Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie
- New Rochelle High School
- Kensico Dam Valhalla
