Welcome to the CYONY "Polar Bear" Club Track Program
The Registration Form is Open
Eligibility for practices:
Any kid, grades 3+ with running experience (the ability to run 3 miles without stopping).
CYONY Live Outdoor Practices w/ Coach Stefan: 1-2x a week rotating:
First practice Wednesday, November 18th, Twin Lakes. Tentative day/time/locations/distances include:
Saturday’s 2pm (Saint Augustines, Rockefeller State Park, Rockwood, OCA): Comfort Pace Trail Runs, 4 miles
Wednesday’s 4pm (Twin Lakes Eastchester, Bronx River Parkway trail Hartsdale, Webster Avenue trail New Rochelle): Trail scale up pace 3 miles
Friday’s 7pm (Kensico Dam, the kids favorite, under the lights): Speed/Drills/Hills/Steps
CYO Polar Bear Youth XC meets:
What is a polar bear meet? Think XCOUNTRY season but colder. This year we’ll be running in 2 locations, Iona Prep in New Rochelle and St. Augustines in Ossining. The first meet will take place December 12th, Saint Augustines, 11am.
Practices/Weather:
Keep in mind, we could go long stretches without running (heavy snow blankets the surfaces for weeks, Arctic air blasts, blizzards etc). However, as long as temps are above 35 and the surfaces are mostly clear...we’ll run. Flexibility and creativity.
How do I dress?:
Layers, layers, layers. Remember add 15-20 degrees to the outside temperature when dressing. Your body heats up quick. Keep your “vents” closed, head, hands, feet, and core. And yes, masks. Which most wear all winter anyway! Always start with a wick base (1st layer). Better to peal than add.
Volunteers:
Needed (though we’ve already lined up a few High school runners).
Virtual Workouts:
Begins Jan 7th. Details to follow.
Here we go. A CYO Youth Polar Bear season is here! All in for the kids.
